Sober Living Ministry

Along with the Christians books as references, the sciences (natural sciences, social sciences, and human sciences) and Other Books might be helpful for us to understand God’s word.

For example, the book of “The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions (New York: Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc, 1952) was read for His sheep at the Addicts ministry. It is also applicable not only to Alcoholics but also to Narcotics, Smoke, Gambling, Homosexuality, or Pornography as well, basically for any captive life. But it is not necessary for Christianity. It is used as a text on the rehabilitation program to restore addicted life to sober life. Their names of participants in a group are not disclosed in public, called as “anonymous.”

Some domestic rules in the program are written in the 12 traditions of the book. Here are the 12 steps:

1 We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.2 Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.3 Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.4 Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.5 Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.6 Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.7 Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.8 Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.9 Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.10 Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.11 Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.12 Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Some addicts who mount whichever step have come freely to the Bible study. Each person is different. The ministers of the word should respond to whatever the Lord leads them through prayers. In general, the Gospel for salvation, the Lord’s prayer, the Great Commandments, the Great Commission, and the ten Commandments are referred, if needed, during the Bible study. It is always encouraged to study the Bible daily (called as the “daily spiritual bread” for soul as the “daily physical bread” for body) from how to study in our Bible study, to ask God always in the form of prayer, to rejoice always in the Lord Himself, to give thanks for all things (because God, the Holy Spirit, is always with you and working without sleeping for you), and to have a daily loving fellowship with the Lord (because Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us on cross). The 12 steps studies (e.g. Admission, a Power, Morality, Wrongs, God, Shortcomings, Harmed persons, His will, a spiritual awakening, etc.) should be “in the captivity to the obedience of Christ” (e.g. Confession of the sin of unbelief and of wrongs or any addictions, All highest Power only to the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, Absolute Morality only from God, God known only from the Bible, God’s Grace needed because of all people’s shortcomings, Seek forgiveness from harmed persons, God’s will from the whole counsel of God (because in James 2:10,” For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.”) through prayers, Transformation into the sober life in Christ by the Spirit from the addicted life, etc., via daily study of the Bible without addition or deletion in light of Deuteronomy 4:2, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you," and of Revelation 22:18-19, “ For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

In that way, sciences & other books, Christian books, and other Versions of the Bible as references would be used for KJV and/or the Original Scripture as the text.
